Heading Off the Charts

When I said that it looked like Little S would wean naturally, maybe I spoke too soon. He's now back to asking to nurse -- a lot.

I have no problem with it, though. Anything to help him gain more weight. He hasn't gained any weight for a few months now. He's only growing taller. But that means he's getting thinner. His weight is below 5 percentile now.

I am puzzled by his lack of weight gain. He eats a lot. I also give him fresh cow's milk now, something which I'm loathe to do, but I am afraid that my milk isn't enough anymore.

Only one thing I can think of -- worms! Well, either that, or maybe it's just genetic.

My Ethan has always been below the weight chart, especially when he was still on exclusive breastmilk with no solids. He was oftentimes below the normal charts. But my BF advocate-pedia noted that he was still within normal if you check the new charts by the WHO.

Now that he's 4, he's in the 50th percentile, weight-wise. Height-wise, he's between the 75th-90th percentile, which makes his BMI really low and makes him look really thin. My pedia says not to worry. But my mom wants a little more meat on him. Honestly, so do I.

My daughter weighed in at the 5th percentile during her 9 month check up and had me really worried. We're still breastfeeding and she eats solids, just not a lot. But she is very healthy and I'm very thankful for that, even though she is very petite.

Hey, I just stumbled on your blog, and it's been interesting reading through some of your posts. I'm currently breastfeeding my four-month-old daughter (my first child), and have had to return to work full-time. Over the last month (since I returned to work), I've noticed my milk supply dwindling frighteningly low, so I'm currently working to keep it up. Little Miss was born in the 50th percentile for weight and 80th for length. She is now in the 18th for length and the 15th for weight. She isn't gaining very quickly, and it's starting to really freak me out. I'm going to keep following and browsing your blog to see if I can find other things that are helpful to me. Thank you!
