Fallen

I have fallen over to the dark side. Little S has gained a total of 1 kilo from his 1st birthday to his 2nd birthday, and I have given in to the pediatrician's advise to try giving him formula.

Little S has been drinking formula with his breakfast and afternoon snack for about 3 months now. And let me tell you, absolutely nothing has happened. No weight gain, nothing! I have spent a lot of money for those expensive cans of oil and sugar -- I checked the ingredients label, and that's what they're made of -- and all that has happened is the devirginization of little S's gut.

I do wish that he would gain more weight, but I guess I will just have to accept that he's naturally small. I shouldn't be surprised anyway, considering that I'm pretty small myself.

So now I regret giving in to the pressure. I guess it's because I know how it feels to always be compared to other kids, to be made fun of because as a child I've always been small for my age. I didn't want little S to face the same ridicule.

But as long as he's healthy and happy and smart, then I'm not going to dwell on it. After all, size isn't everything.

Hi Jane, my little boy is also the same as your son. When he turned one, his weight gain has been painfully slow. I haven't given formula yet, just full cream milk; although he drinks only about 4 oz per day. But then he's healthy, active, and alert. Maybe he took after his dad (very lean, skinny guy). :)

Hi Mandy! I have switched back to full-cream fresh milk now. If your son is healthy and active, then learn from my experience and don't bother with formula. :)

Hi Jane, Joao is also underweight. Formula didn't help that much and since he turned 1 he likes Fresh Milk more. He actually doesn't like anything sweet!

Hi Issh, well that's good! You don't have to worry about cavities. ;)
